The Problem
This Project operates in a region of Ceara, Brazil prone to drought and poverty. Combating illegal logging which is one of the leading causes of deforestation.
The Solution
The Project has enabled five ceramic factories to exchange their use of illegal firewood to agricultural and industrial residues. Using biomass which would have been discarded as waste. This fuel exchange not only transforms waste into a useful product. It provides many locals with the opportunity to make a living by supplying biomass waste directly to the factories. Working conditions at the ceramics factories have also been greatly improved by the reduction in indoor air pollution and the factories have been able to reuse their industrial waste water.
The Impact
Combats illegal logging
Creates employment
Improved working conditions
Reduces deforestation
Minimised emissions
